The Inter Boards Coordination Commission forum concluded a two-day meeting in Murree on Saturday where it was informed that examination boards in Sindh, the federal board, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, KIU, Aga Khan and Ziauddin have implemented a new grading policy that sets passing marks at 40%. The forum approved several measures aimed at standardising examination practices across the country, shifting away from rote learning toward conceptual understanding, and improving transparency in student records. Student identification numbers from national identity documents will now be included on secondary and higher secondary certificates to make records easier to verify. The commission approved scholarships and international exposure opportunities for top-performing students and will arrange specialised camps during winter and summer breaks for high achievers. The forum also recommended equivalence recognition for 12 additional religious schools, bringing the total to 26 institutions covered under the framework. Students from foreign examination boards who have completed at least two science subjects will now receive science group equivalence, providing more flexibility in academic pathways. Officials emphasised the importance of coordinated implementation of these reforms across all boards to maintain fairness and public confidence in the examination system.
