Pakistan wins four bronze medals at World Nomad Games

Pakistan concluded their campaign at the World Nomad Games in Bishkek with four bronze medals across two sports. In the tug-of-war competition, Tayyab Raza Awan won bronze in the individual event after defeating wrestlers from Russia, Georgia and Britain before claiming the medal bout against Iran. The Pakistani team also took bronze in the team tug-of-war event following a victory over Iran in the third-place match, having previously defeated India and competed against Britain, Russia, South Korea, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Brazil and Georgia.

In mass wrestling, Mohammad Asim earned bronze in the 90-kilogramme category after winning his bronze medal bout against an Iranian opponent. Iqra Naseeb added a fourth medal for Pakistan by winning bronze in the 90-kilogramme and above category. The Games, a biennial event celebrating nomadic sporting traditions held for the sixth time, will formally close on Sunday.

Pakistan competed across four sports at the Games including equestrian, archery, mass wrestling and tug-of-war. Officials expressed satisfaction with the country’s performance. The World Nomad Games feature traditional sports including wrestling, archery, horse racing and tug-of-war, with roots tracing back to 2014.
