Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s information minister Shafi Jan has condemned statements made by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on terrorism, calling them irresponsible and regrettable. He accused her of exploiting the sensitive issue for political advantage, a tactic he said the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz has long employed.

Shafi Jan said terrorism is not confined to any single province or region but is a national battle. He alleged that Maryam Nawaz’s remarks aimed to sow discord between provinces rather than unite the country against the threat.

The KP minister highlighted his province’s leading role in counterterrorism efforts and the sacrifices made by its police and citizens. He said describing Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as a threat, given its frontline status in fighting terrorism, reflects a regrettable mindset.

Shafi Jan stressed that defeating terrorism demands national cohesion, but claimed Maryam Nawaz was converting a critical national issue into provincial politics.
