Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, Sindh’s Local Government Minister, responded on Saturday to remarks by Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi by distinguishing between governance improvements and provincial reorganisation. Shah said he supports administrative reforms aimed at better governance and public service delivery, but insisted these should not be coupled with proposals to divide Sindh or create new provinces.
Shah argued that provinces are more than administrative units, carrying distinct historical, cultural, linguistic and constitutional significance. He maintained that any change to provincial boundaries cannot be justified solely on administrative grounds. Instead, he suggested that better governance and decision-making could be brought closer to citizens by creating new districts, divisions and tehsils while strengthening local government institutions, all within the current constitutional framework.
Shah stressed that Sindh’s people have clearly expressed their position regarding the province’s integrity and identity. He reiterated the Sindh government’s willingness to consider proposals that improve governance and public welfare, but drew a firm line against any measure seen as threatening provincial unity.
