The UK Standard Visitor visa covers tourism, visiting family, short business trips and some study of up to six months. It is the visa almost every first-time visitor to the UK from Pakistan applies for.
What it allows
A single visit of up to six months, or in some cases a long-term visa valid for two, five or ten years that still limits each individual stay to six months. It does not permit work, except for a narrow list of permitted business activities.
What decides the outcome
The application turns on one question: will you leave at the end of your visit. That is shown through financial evidence, ties to Pakistan (employment, property, family) and a travel history that is consistent with a genuine visit. A thin or inconsistent set of bank statements is the single most common reason for refusal.
Before you apply
Book the biometric appointment early. Slots at the visa application centre fill up, particularly in peak travel seasons. Have your invitation letter, if any, and your accommodation and return travel details ready before you start the online form, since the form does not save cleanly if you leave it half-finished for too long.
How to apply
- Complete the online application On the UK governments visa application website, using the exact details on your passport.
- Pay the fee and book biometrics Book an appointment at a visa application centre to give fingerprints and a photograph.
- Submit your documents Upload or hand in financial evidence, an invitation letter if you have one, and proof of your ties to Pakistan.
- Wait for a decision Standard processing is around three weeks; priority services can shorten this for a fee.
- Bank statements that are thin, inconsistent, or show a large unexplained deposit shortly before applying
- No clear evidence of ties to Pakistan: employment, property or family that would draw you back
- A travel history or stated purpose that does not match the visa applied for
- An incomplete or inconsistent application form
