Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party, paid tribute to martyrs and military personnel on Defence Day, saying the nation will never forget those who died for the country’s defence and sovereignty. He described Defence Day as a solemn reminder of the sacrifices made for Pakistan, noting that the blood of martyrs is woven into the national fabric. He also honoured the families of the fallen, saying their mothers, fathers, wives, children and loved ones have endured immeasurable loss with courage and dignity.
Bilawal said Pakistan’s armed forces continue to defend the country against every threat, including terrorism, with unwavering courage. He stressed that Pakistan’s strongest defence rests not only on military strength but also on national unity, democracy, constitutional supremacy and social justice.
He referenced his party’s founders, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto, saying they envisioned a strong, sovereign and democratic Pakistan. He noted their leadership advanced the country’s nuclear programme and missile technology despite international pressure, ensuring Pakistan’s sovereignty would not be held hostage to external demands.
Bilawal said the best tribute to martyrs is to build a country worthy of their sacrifices, where democracy flourishes, justice prevails and every citizen can live with dignity and hope.
