The Punjab Food Authority closed a water filtration plant operating on Multan Road after laboratory tests detected harmful bacteria in its water samples. The bacterium Pseudomonas aeruginosa was found, which officials said could damage human immune systems. The closure was ordered by PFA Director General Raja Mansoor Ahmed during enforcement operations on Sunday.
A juice factory on Minhaj-ul-Quran Road was also fined for violating food safety instructions. Inspection teams found no temperature control in storage areas, peeling paint on walls, stagnant water in the production space, and missing required records and documentation.
The director general said the authority would continue unannounced inspections of water filtration plants across Punjab to check compliance with safety rules. He stated that establishments failing to follow hygiene standards would face strict action, and emphasized that negligence in food preparation, transport, and storage would not be permitted.
