Cloudburst-induced floods blocked the Karakoram Highway and other routes in the Ghizer district on Saturday. The flash floods caused damage to houses, fruit trees, and agricultural land in several areas of the region. Electricity supply was also disrupted along the affected routes due to damaged transmission lines.
Residents in villages like Naubahar were cut off from other areas after the roads were blocked by landslides and water. Local authorities and police are working to reopen the highway while advising tourists to avoid unnecessary travel during this dangerous period.
Experts note that the region has seen a shift in weather patterns with frequent cloudbursts and rapid glacier melting. Continuous rainfall has lowered temperatures and brought early snowfall to high-altitude areas like Babusar Top, complicating the situation for residents living near glaciers.
