USA Media Visa, Also called I Visa. It is for the media personnel visiting United States on temporary basis. The person wish to apply for Media Visa USA, must have media office outside US. The media person on this visa can only work in their profession. Individual working for any type of foreign media including Print, TV, Film, Radio and Press can apply for United States Media (I) Visa. This Visa can only be used to gather information related to news or reporting an event for their home media.
Visa Purposes:
Any foreign media with home office outside United States can apply for the Media I Visa for following purposes
- The employee engaged in filming any news events or documentary. The employee must be of the foreign media and must have countries professional journalist association credentials.
- Employee of media group of production or distribution of films. The primary source of funding for distribution must be of outside United States. The film produced or distributed must be related to news or educational in nature.
- A Journalist with professional journalist association credentials working on a product that is intended to be advertised or for commercial entertainment.
- A journalist visiting US to cover an event in US for home country audience.
- A representative of tourist Bureau, who provides factual tourist information about that country and is not entitled to get A-2 visa.
- An employee who will work in the US office for the organization that provides technical industrial information.
- Media person who will work as a journalist for media cannot travel on visa waiver program or visitor visa.
How to Apply?
There are many steps involved in how to apply for the Visa. Following are the steps mentioned, be ware that steps may vary.
1) Online Visa Application
1st step is to complete the online application visa form ( Form DS-160 ). You must also upload your picture for the form DS-160. Once form is completed please print the application confirmation form. This confirmation form will be required in interview. Also please check the details of the picture format.
2) Schedule an Interview
Generally interviews are required for visa applicants. You can either schedule an interview in US Embassy or Consulate of your home country. Scheduling and interview outside your home country might be difficult. Also the wait time is an important factor in visa interview. It depends on number of visas applications, visa category and also on the season.
3) Visa Fee
Visa fee is non-refundable, you may be required to pay it before the visa interview. Visa issuance fee must be paid after the visa is issued. Reciprocity fees may also be applicable after visa is issued for some countries.
4) Required Documents

- Journalist working contract with the media organization
- Credential issued by professional journalist association to an employee of an independent production company
6) Visa Interview
Ink free finger prints are taken during visa, a consular determines during interview if you are eligible for the visa you applied for under US laws or not. You have to establish the case that you are eligible. Once visa is approved, the information about the process of collection of passport or delivered by courier will be provided.
