Doctors at the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases in Karachi saved the life of a 12-year-old boy from Khuzdar, Balochistan, by removing a bullet lodged in his heart. The child was initially treated at a local hospital after an accidental shooting in his hometown, but the severity of his injury required transfer to the specialized cardiac facility in Karachi. Upon arrival at NICVD, an emergency echocardiogram confirmed the presence of the bullet in the boy’s heart, and he was taken to the operating theatre within minutes. A surgical team led by paediatric cardiac surgeon Professor Sohail Khan Bangash, including paediatric cardiac surgeon Dr Saad Badr, paediatric interventionalist Dr Abdul Sattar Sheikh, and anaesthesiologist Professor Ameen Khawaja, conducted the complex operation, which lasted approximately two hours.
