But international students and non residents of South Korea must have a South Korean Visa to enter the country legally otherwise you will not be able to travel to the country.
In this article, I will explain all types of study visa required for different study programs. All kind of visas are regulated and issued by South Korean government. Students must apply to the designated embassies of Republic of South Korea in their home countries. Please keep in mind you will only get a visa if you have already applied to one of the universities in South Korea and have the admission letter. Types of South Korea Study Visa:
Associate Degree (D-2-1)
A person who wish to enroll for a full-time, two-to-three-year associate degree at a junior college, community college, or community-equivalent vocational school in South Korea must obtain D-2-1 Visa in accordance with Higher Education Act. It is valid for up to two years or until the degree is completed.
Bachelor’s Degree (D-2-2)
A person who is planning to pursue Bachelor’s degree in South Korea will receive D-2-2 visa from the Korean Government. It is also valid for up two years or until the degree completes.
Master’s Degree (D-2-3)
This visa is available for students who got admission in Master’s degree program in any graduate college established in accordance with Higher Education Act. It is valid for up to two to three years.
Doctoral Degree (D-2-4)
Students pursuing doctoral degree programs in South Korea will obtain D-2-4 visa. It is valid for up to the duration of degree completion. But if the thesis is not completed then students can apply for extension before your residence card expires.
Research Study (D-2-5)
If you wish to engage in a specific research at any college or university then you will need D-2-5 visa which is valid for up to two years.
Exchange Student (D-2-6)
This visa is available for students who plans to study for a required course or curriculum. The duration of the visa is six months to one year or until the exchange program lasts.
Korean Language Trainee (D-4-1)
Students who plan to learn Korean language at on of the institute in South Korea will apply for D-4-1 visa. You must renew the visa after every six months.
Student (Elementary, Middle, High School) (D-4-3)
It is for students who plan to study at an academic institution equivalent to high school or below. It is valid for up to one year. It is also linked to graduation or school terms.
Foreign Language Trainee (D-4-7)
If you are currently attending to high school or below, or if you have a high school diploma or above, and planning to learn foreign language at a language institution affiliated with a foreign academic institution in ROK or at a tertiary education center established in accordance with the Higher Education Act then you will need D-4-7 visa. The validity is six months to maximum 2 years.
