Qatar offers visa-on-arrival to eligible passport holders for short tourist and business visits, issued at the airport on arrival rather than through an embassy beforehand.

What it allows

A stay of up to 30 days for tourism or business, generally extendable once from within Qatar. It does not permit employment.

What you need at the airport

A passport valid well beyond your visit, a return or onward ticket, and proof of accommodation or a local contact. Officers can and do ask for evidence of sufficient funds, so carry more than the bare minimum.

Before you travel

Confirm your passport qualifies for visa-on-arrival before booking. Eligibility is set by nationality and changes without much notice. Arriving without checking is the one mistake that cannot be fixed once you have landed.

How to apply

  1. Check your eligibility before booking Confirm your passport qualifies for visa-on-arrival, since this is set by nationality and can change.
  2. Book your flight and accommodation Have confirmed return travel and a hotel booking or local host ready to show on arrival.
  3. Present your documents at the airport Passport, return ticket and proof of accommodation are checked at the immigration desk.
  4. Receive your visa stamp Issued on the spot once the officer is satisfied, with no separate approval step beforehand.
Common reasons applications are refused
  • A passport with less than six months of validity remaining
  • No return or onward ticket to show at the airport
  • A nationality or passport type that does not currently qualify for visa-on-arrival

Frequently asked questions

Can I apply without a bank statement?
No. Proof of funds is required for every applicant.
Can I extend my stay once I am in Qatar?
A single extension is generally possible from within Qatar before the visa expires. It is not automatic and should be arranged well before the 30 days run out.
